I'm so sorry about not writting my best days in Germany. Carneval was one thing I was told about right from the start. Everyone was like,' You would love it.' And love is an understatement!
Firstly. Carneval means people with colourful clothes, a lot of beer, parties, and candies :D. I'm not kidding! It is celebrated only in the area around Cologne. And I lucky stay around Cologne so I got to celebrate it this big! :D
Day one : This was the major party day in my school. I entered the school and everyone was wearing different customs. It was awesome to see! All sorts of colours,so much life! Every class had to come up with some sort of dance performance, which I of course did with my class. I danced on this Bollywood song with my class called, 'Pappuu can't dance'. We practised around 3 times before the main performance. But the important part is we had fun! And also, Erandy (Mexico), me (India) and Signe (America) decided to do a little "Tricultural Dance". (Sorry if it doesn't work, one of the other Americans posted it and it doesn't work in Germany. ). The three of us wore cultural outfits, too (as Karneval is a time for costumes). So I wore a Indian dandiya dress, Erandy wore traditional Mexican garb, and Signe wore a cowboy dress. Oh, and if you're friends with me on Facebook, you can also see it there. Anyway, we all had our little pieces of cultural dance. Signe selected American song, Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot.I chose Jai Ho (from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack,) and Erandy did the Macarena. We were the last to perform -- and apparently they all LOVED it! We were even called back to do it again. It was amazing performing in front of so many people, and the atmosphere was wild. I'll try and post the video here.
Day 2: This day, didn't really bring much because we all wanted to go to the disco. And there is only one disco around where we stay( Steffis) and they didn't allow us to go inside. Just because we aren't Germans. And we had to show our passport to get inside. And ofcourse we can't stupid to carry passports to discos. Or ya,we just went to a bar and hanged around there :)
Day3 : Which was awesomeeee! I went to see a parade with my host mom, host dad and Rike. We met my fellow Brazialian exchange student there. It was cold as hell, and it was kind of snowing. My host mom was smart my telling us to not wear our Karneval 's customs^^. We went to see street Karneval. Which is like a parade which takes place, with a lot of people all wonderfully dressed. My host sister(Line) was also a part of the parade and she was dressed as a possible woman. So as this parade passes people in the parade throw all types of food at the people watching them. They throw chocolates, chips, candies, flowers. People who are talking with the parade give alchohol. And you know the coolest part? The small boy next to me,got a football! I mean a real football! There are also bands in the parade. A lot music, people had so much energy in them. Ofcourse, we collected a lot of things. But it was insane the number of things there were throwing! I mean it was snowing and thats the reason many of the stuff was falling in snow, and people weren't picking it up.(Something which will never happen in India ;) ). But all in all a great thing to see!
Then we all came home. Signe came over, we got ready together. I was wearing German dirndl (dress thingy) . I also braided her hair and with her sparkly makeup :). Signe wore like Barbie doll clothes. She looked adorable! Then we got to the party (which was surprisingly free), and immediately realized that it was PACKED. I'm talking, you can hardly move two inches without hitting someone. Anyway, we found friends fairly quickly, despite so many people being there. It was fun -- the music was so loud that one couldn't speak and be heard, so all there was to do was dance. We stayed fairly late, and finally went back to my house with a taxi. And then crashed. Around six hours at such a party is pretty much exhausting.
Day 3: I didn't go much, other then staying around the house and resting. :)
Day 4: I went with my host mom and host sister to celebrate street Carneval. We saw the parade, and later because we were standing around 3 hours in the same place my legs started freezing. So we went home :)
We again had a party. This time I wrote like a Brasilian dancer 's feathers on the head, and a black dress I had from home. I also had fake eyelashes and for the first time ever I actually had eyelashes which were seen ;). It was awesome fun. We were there partying all night, then we came home and crashed.
Maybe this post isn't that interesting to read. But Carneval is the best thing in my whole Germany stay. I had so much fun! The place was full of life, so full of colours. And Germany isn't always like this. I saw some really crazy Germans during Karneval too. People were drunk at around 4 in the afternoon. It was funny! Carneval was also a great time to make better friends.
Plus it leaves me with the popularity in school ;). I got into my bus after 5 days of carneval and this little boy came in front of me and did the same dance :D.
PS: I'm sorry about writting Karneval with 'K' and with 'C',but its confusing because its with a 'K' in German and with a 'C' in English.
Love and peace.
Take care all you people!
